The MAMA Scholarship Program was founded in 2007 by the daughters of Elfreda Walker-Maragh, affectionately known as Mama. In her quiet yet powerful way, Mama was a true advocate for education and opportunity.

Although her own formal education ended with earning a G.E.D., she understood the transformative power of learning. She devoted her life to encouraging her children—and so many others—to reach higher, dream bigger, and pursue the fullest extent of their potential through education. To her, every young person deserved support, guidance, and love to help turn their dreams into reality.

Mama had a gift for seeing potential where others saw obstacles. She became a voice of encouragement for those who needed it most, offering not just words of wisdom, but genuine care and belief in their ability to succeed. Her kindness inspired those she helped to do the same for others, creating a ripple of hope that continues to this day.
